MG Vintage Racers' Newsletter
1981 - 2001

20th Anniversary

Are they becoming Vintage - VINTAGE? A VERY SIGNIFICANT 20th ANNIVERSARY will be celebrated by the MG Vintage Racers' Newsletter (MGVR) in December 2001. Founded in 1981 by MG racer Greg Prehodka, it is the oldest single marque vintage race support group, older than many vintage racing organizations. Its ranks include MGB's, A's, C's, Midgets, T's, Pre-War, and MG specials, who are still dicing on race tracks. Since its beginning, it has grown and supported the sport of MG vintage racing, and now has about 200 members. In 1995, Greg handed over leadership of the group to Mark Palmer.

The award winning newsletter is a strongly member supported, no-nonsense tool that bonds these MG racers together. Besides regular newsletters and a website mgvr.org, MGVR has published their MG racing Tech Tips, and conducted detailed member and car census in 1990 and 2001.

Another very significant MGVR function is their yearly Focus Event, which supports an all MG race. Every year the newsletter solicits the cooperation of a vintage racing organization to stage an all MG race. Then all MGVR members are encouraged to attend it, for a large MG turnout. At that event, participation, and not winning, is key, as MGVR supports the weekend with items like a member's dinner with guest speakers, inviting special racing MG's, and awarding of a unique MGVR spirit award, The Big Copper Bucket who's recipient is determined by a vote of the attending MG racers.

Past Focus Events have been held at Pittsburgh, Lime Rock, Watkins Glen, Waterford Hills, Mid-Ohio, Mosport, Virginia International Raceway, and Road America, where record breaking fields of over 60 MG's have often participated. Next year's Focus Event will be in August at the New Hampshire Vintage Festival, sanctioned by the VSCCA.

Membership in MGVR requires actively racing an MG, or preparing for same. More information on MGVR may be obtained from their website, www.mgvr.org, or by writing: Mark Palmer, Editor MGVR, 253 Bridle Path Road, Bethlehem, Pa. 18017
