6th Annual - All MG - "Simms Cup" Race at Mosport

The second (of 3) "All MG" races of this season will be held at VARAC's International Vintage Racing Festival, the weekend of June 27-29th at Mosport, Ontario (about 60 miles east of Toronto). There the prestigious "Simms Cup" all MG race will be run.

In the past, before it was rededicated as the "Simms Cup", this trophy was known as the "Alitalia Trophy", and it was awarded to the Driving Champion - Sports Class - of the Canadian Automobile Sports Car Club, Ontario Region. In 1968 Tony Simms won it racing his MGB. Tony was very successful racing MG's, and other cars, including vintage racing his MGA Twin Cam in the 90's. Tony has since retired, and the trophy now is annually passed on as the "Simms Cup" trophy at VARAC's vintage festival for the all MG race.

In the true spirit of Vintage Racing, the cup is not awarded for winning the race. A VARAC committee votes to award it to a MG driver in the "MG Feature Race" who is judged to have demonstrated superior driving skill with their MG - which is deemed to be prepared to a high level of race readiness, but while still maintaining proper vintage character. Past winners include: Don Munoz in 1998 with an MGB - Bob Grunau '99 MGTC - Andy Schmidt '00 MGA - Ed Cronin '01 MGTD - and Mark Palmer '02 MGA.

This event, and the all MG race, have been growing over the past few years. Last year 24 MG's competed in it, and even more MG's are expected this year. VARAC puts on a great vintage racing festival, and with the all MG race it is an event not to be missed!

Nick Pratt, the VARAC representative - an MG racer himself - extends an invitation for all MG racers, and MG enthusiasts, to attend this great festival where MG's as well as many other great vintage race cars will be competing. Come experience some warm Canadian hospitality, and experience vintage racing at one of the great race tracks - Mosport!
