MG Racer Denver Cornett

Gone, But Not Forgotten

A icon of MG racing passed away last year.  And many of those who were privileged to know this MG racer and enthusiast, will honor him at Mid Ohio this October at VSCDA?s vintage race weekend of Oct. 12-14, where MG will be featured.  Denver Cornett began racing his MGTC in the inaugural race at Watkins Glen in 1948, and then raced it for a number of years at many early street races before ?retiring it?, - but not parting with it.  His MG enthusiasm was rekindled in 1994, when he returned to Watkins Glen to watch the vintage races.  Then he joined the MG Vintage Racers group, and brought his MG out of retirement, and began racing it at vintage events, where he befriended many of the MG racers.  Now they will honor Denver at Mid Ohio, where the all MG race will be named the ?Denver Cornett Memorial Race?.  Plus his son Denny Cornett will be there to share some of his memories of his dad.  This event has been designated by the MG Vintage Racers as their ?Focus Event? for 2007.  About 100 MGs are expected to compete.  Denver will also be spotlighted at MGVR?s dinner Friday evening and VSCDA?s dinner Saturday evening.  For more information, event contacts are:  MGVR:  Dave Smith, or 517-694-4856, or MGVR?s web site ?  VSCDA: Phil Cull or tel. at 616-949-3160, or VSCDA web site ?
